NIFCA flood
This yearís National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) is set to be one of the biggest ever in its 29 years and has been swamped with entries in all the categories, especially the literary and visual arts, whose entries have more than tripled. According to the National Cultural Foundation, producers of NIFCA, the response by the artistic community has been as a result of increased community spirit, prize monies, scholarships, high-profile marketing, and community training in various disciplines.

Monkey on the greens

The Barbados Green Monkey could soon be the toast of the world. Not the lively animal this time, but the new US$200 million golf course at Sandy Lane, which is due to be opened early next year. The facility will feature an 18-hole competition course with a breathtaking view of the islandís West Coast. Built on the site of the old Norwood quarry, it has as its signature hole a manicured grass carving of the green monkey. This Glen Hinkson picture shows a panoramic view of the golf course from the 100-foot cliff overlooking the course.
